REASONS WHY

We Get Asked Why Will the Shop Have to Close if the Post Office closes?

Because of Post Office Ltd - The People's Post Office

Not Just in Closing Llanwrda Post Office but in the underhand tactics it will use to PREVENT the shop staying open.

Meanwhile Royal Mail's Chief Executive earns £3 million and Post Office Ltd offer Assembly Members an all expenses day at the Races!!!

  • The Post Office income supports the shop
  • The shop looses money every month due to low turnover, many customers are purchasing food and essential items, the margin on these items is very low.
  •  Many customers buy single items at the same time as they use the Post Office.
  • The Post office attracts customers so no post office means less customers.
  • Many people shop now in supermarkets rather than their local shop, the people who shop here the most are older people, those with no cars, people with disabilities, mums with no transport, farming communities who can only shop at unsocial hours.
  • The costs are high because the shop is open almost 12 hours a day which is what people want.
  • To make up the shortfall from the loss of Post Office income the turnover in the shop would need to increase 10 times over
  • If the Post office closes the shop will not be allowed to sell any products that compete with Post Office for 12 months - this means no lottery terminal, no phone top ups, no electric tokens, no cash dispenser, no stamps,
  • Being able to sell those services (from another agency like Paypoint) could mean the shop was more viable but Post Office Ltd want compensation for THEIR loss of business (never mind you the customer this is all about money)!
  • The Shop Owners (Laura)  do not have the money to pay Post office the compensation they require (thousands of pounds) and the amount they would pay would take over 6 years of commissions earnt from sale of the items. So in effect the financial picture would become worse.

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.
